Folk rock duo Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer will return to Haines at 7 p.m. Saturday to perform songs from their new album at the Chilkat Center.
“They’re a really nice duo,” said Tom Heywood, president of the Haines Arts Council, the organization sponsoring the event.
According to McGraw and Fer’s website, they play a blend of folk, rock and roots music. Both McGraw and Fer are well-known as multi-instrumentalists, playing electric and acoustic guitars, percussion, cello, banjo and piano.
Heywood said the couple’s voices blend nicely and they sing in “crisp harmonies.” Their new album, titled “Off-Grid Lo-Fi,” was recorded entirely with solar and wind-powered electricity on a remote, off-grid island in northwest Washington. This is their third album together since joining forces in 2010.
The couple spent time touring in Europe before the release of their album in June, as well as playing shows throughout the United States this summer. They will play shows in Skagway, Haines, Juneau and Ketchikan this month and next.
Heywood said McGraw and Fer have played music in Haines twice. They performed several years ago at the Southeast Alaska State Fair, then a few years later they did a concert for the arts council.
Heywood said the arts council does not normally host repeat performances. But he’s hoping to attract locals to the concert who’ve seen McGraw and Fer before as well as introduce new people to their music.
Tickets are available at the door this weekend: $15 for adults, $10 for arts council members and $5 for students.
