Pylons wait to be pounded into the soil at the Haines Highway’s Klehini River crossing to replace the 246-foot Steel Bridge. Southeast Roadbuilders is scheduled to finish the $6.7 million project by next summer. The federal government is paying 91 percent of the tab, and the state is paying the rest. The current bridge is at the end of its designed life, having been moved to the Haines Borough from Juneau in 1969.
