Alaska Mountain Guides co-owner Sean Gaffney declined to provide additional details about a June 18 accident that sent an off-duty guide to Seattle for medical care.
The state Division of Parks last week identified the guide who reportedly fell 35 feet from a Chilkoot Lake mountainside as Kayla Jankowski. Jankowski was lifted off the mountain by a Temsco helicopter and taken to Seattle for further care.
“Alaska is real and it’s easy to miss the significance of being in the country around us. You get off the trail and the consequences go up… They did things well. Just because you do things well doesn’t mean you won’t have an incident,” Gaffney said last week.
Gaffney said he relayed questions from the CVN to Jankowski. AMG co-owner Eli Fierer said that Jankowski fell while trying to scramble up a waterfall.
