A production of Vera Morris’ “Fee Fi Fo Fum,” a romp through the Jack and the Beanstalk story, will cap the Lynn Canal Community Players’ Summer Youth Theater Conservatory.

Registration is open for the theater camp, which will be held June 30-July 24 at the Chilkat Center. Performances are set for July 22-23.

The play will feature a two-person dancing cow, a chicken laying golden eggs and a troll who works as henchman for the giant, said Annette Smith, LCCP’s secretary-treasurer. “It’s a very funny play. The characters are full of antics.”

Like the conservatory’s production of “Noodle Rat Rotten Hat,” the play is a musical, including singing and dancing.

“It’s a good summer event a lot of people look forward to. It’s an opportunity for kids to learn to present themselves in front of people and to wow their parents and friends,” Smith said.

The conservatory is open to youths ages 8-18 and will be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. A playmaking session for actors ages 5-7 will be on the same days, but with half-time hours, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Tuition is $275 for the conservatory and $175 for playmaking. Partial scholarships are available. Deadline for a pre-registration discount is June 8. Registration forms are available at the Babbling Book and at chilkatcenter.org.

Dr. Stanley Coleman and Bill Winkley of Eugene, Ore. are returning as conservatory directors. Becky Nash is director’s assistant and Cathy Pashigian will again lead playmaking sessions.

Coleman is a professor of speech at Lane College with extensive experience directing youth productions.
