May’s First Friday event will include an unveiling of Fort Seward history panels and a reception on the porch of the fort Barracks Building, and open houses at area lodging establishments.
The Alaska Arts Confluence will host dual-venue events, with a display of Theresa Raven’s knitted clothing at the Art on Main Street Office and a tour of the soon-to-be refurbished burnt-out barracks building in Fort William H. Seward. Both receptions will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 6.
At 6 p.m., the Port Chilkoot Company will unveil three interpretive signs it will be installing on the porch of the barracks. The signs were designed by Haines artist Andrea Nelson.
They tell the history of Fort Seward from its construction in 1902 to the present day. Along with Port Chilkoot Distillery, fort galleries open for First Friday include Cottage Arts , Whalerider, and Seawolf Gallery.
Merrick Bochart’s art will be on display at Skipping Stone Studios.
