A very huge and sincere thank you to all the volunteers who helped pull off the Triple Threat Basketball Tournament last weekend. There were four teams from Juneau Hooptime and three teams from Haines, with a total of 15 games played. Seventy participated in a special skills competition held Saturday.
Kahlyl Dybdahl from Juneau won the first round of the “bump” competition. Kirby Faverty of Haines won the free-throw completion and was also the last man standing in the second round of “bump.” Mark Davis of Haines sank the most three-point shots and took the “dribble knockout” after coming head-to-head with Aireona Davis of Haines in a dazzling display of skill by both.
Overall, it was a grand weekend and many folks in the community showed up to cheer. A tremendous thank you to all the volunteers, the referees who went above and beyond, those who manned the clock and scoreboards, the amazing bakers who made treats and manned the concessions, the generous staff of the Haines School who pitched in with the logistics of scheduling, use of the cafeteria and home economics kitchen, team accommodations and movie night, the staff at the pool for the swim party, the coaches who continually give so selflessly of themselves, their time and energy, and to all the mentors, volunteers and parents who consistently encourage, pick up after, clean up, bandage up and continually cheer our players on. Without you, none of this could be done.
