The Haines Dolphins swim team hosted nearly 60 out-of-town swimmers at the annual Winter Games North meet last weekend.

Thirty Dolphins competed against Juneau and Whitehorse swimmers.

“Many of our younger swimmers swam their first meet,” said coach Lauren Rutland. “We also had a very high percentage of personal best times.”

She said notable first-time entries included Brennan Palmieri, 12, in the 400-yard individual medley; Hayden Jimenez, 9, in the 200 freestyle; and Carson Rutland, 6, who “swam a 100 free for the first time in a meet and did flip turns” as the youngest swimmer in attendance.

“All of our swimmers participated in at least one relay and some swam all three,” coach Rutland said. “For most of them this was the first time swimming a relay at a meet, as well.”
