I know you have a bias towards things interesting so let me tell you what has happened to the Neptune, the fishing tender that operated out of Haines for many years. After it sank in October 2013 while sitting at the dock here, it was refloated then sat on the dock for several seasons against borough code as it wasn’t seaworthy. Julie Cozzi was manager then. She who said she didn’t get to choose which rules to enforce, chose not to enforce that rule. In the summer of 2014, the captain sold it to the same gentleman who had brought in a bunch of junk cars and left them on Art Jess’s land. The boat was towed to Hoonah and the harbormaster there wouldn’t allow it in their harbor, as he knew it was a derelict. The new owner put it in the cove just outside the breakwater and in the winter it sank. And that is where it is now. The owner has abandoned it just as he did the cars on Art Jess’s land. You can see the top of it at low tide. Some people worried that this vessel wouldn’t be disposed of properly and I am sad to report, they were right.
