Following a two-year hiatus, the Sheldon Museum’s winter lecture series, “Brown Bag Lunch,” resumes at noon Jan. 8 with a presentation by tour operator Joe Ordonez titled “How I Didn’t Get to Haines.”

Held on Fridays, the annual series of lunch-hour lectures includes topics of local interest and tales told by residents.

Museum director Helen Alten said residents asked for the return of the series, which she describes as “history tid-bits and topics about the community and the people who live here.”

“In some ways it’s an expansion of the River Talk program. It’s amusing and it provides something to break up people’s day and give them something to think about,” Alten said.

The roster of presenters includes; Shannon Donahue, Jan. 22, “From Chilkoot to Churchill: Community Responses to Living with Bears”; Anastasia Wiley, Feb. 5, “Skull Excavation”; Lee Heinmiller, Feb. 19, “Chilkat Weavings”; John Hagen Jr., March 4, “Wild Things”; Cherri Price, March 8, (Topic to be announced); Bob Adkins, April 1, “Hunting Elephants”; Margaret Sebens, April 15, “What Is the Role of an Aging and Disabilities Resource Center in Alaska?”; Byrne Power, April 29, (TBA).

The lectures are free and residents are encouraged to bring a lunch.
