I’ve been reading in the Chilkat Valley News about the proposed name change for the Sheldon Museum and I can’t see one good reason for changing it. What’s wrong with Sheldon Museum? Mr. Sheldon put a lot of time and effort into its creation years ago.

I don’t think a few board members should have the authority to make such an important decision. There should have been a survey, since it affects all of us.

Not only is a name change a waste of time and money but, really, doesn’t the board have more important issues to discuss? The fact that the museum in Sitka is named Sheldon Jackson Museum shouldn’t cause any confusion with anyone. How in the world will it possibly bring in more visitors?

I think the board is “grasping at straws” to think up reasons to change a perfectly good name to something else. Maybe the only change should be to the board members.

While we’re at it, how about renaming the Anway cabin to something more catchy? These pioneers are an important part of Haines history. Let’s lay the name change to rest once and for all! Dixie Hayes
