Public radio listeners will hear some new shows starting in 2016.
The station’s Community Advisory Board and staff have recommended against buying Public Radio International, a package of shows that provides the news magazine “The World,” “River Walk Jazz,” “Science Friday” and others.
The change is being made to save the station money in response to state budget cuts. It should save as much as $11,000, said station manager Kay Clements.
Staff will choose from other programming packagesto fill gaps left by eliminating PRI. “For everything you move, you have to change something else, or at least find a new show that’s compatible with what’s around it. Each change brings up another question,” Clements said.
The switch will also require automation changes.
