The Haines High School volleyball team picked up one win at a seven-team Petersburg tournament last weekend.

The Glacier Bears topped Skagway, but lost to Craig, Klawock, Metlakatla, Petersburg and Wrangell.

Match-ups were best three of five games.

Coach Cassie Miller credited senior Nattaphon “Ice” Wangyot and sophomores Brittney Bradford, Sarah Long and Gabi Miller for strong play at the net, “all getting multiple blocks, including a few against Klawock’s heavy hitters.”

“Our back row defense was also very impressive this weekend,” coach Miller said. “Freshman Tailer Olsson surprised her teammates with some beautiful digs.”

The team will compete at a Juneau tournament this weekend.
