The Haines Department of Motor Vehicles office will likely reopen on July 20, state DMV director Amy Erickson said this week.

DMV’s Southeast area manager will be making an offer to an applicant this week, Erickson said.

“Depending on that person’s employment status, he/she may need to give their former employer two weeks’ notice, then enter into our DMV Academy in Juneau to train,” Erickson said.

The Haines DMV closed in early May after its single employee retired.

Until the new employee arrives, Haines residents can complete many DMV tasks online. For driving tests and other tasks that require in-person service, residents must go to Juneau or Skagway.
