Residents are needed to fill 11 vacant seats on five of the Haines Borough’s advisory committees.

Three seats are open on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, three on the Downtown Revitalization Committee, two on the Sheldon Museum Board of Trustees, two on the Riverview Drive Road Maintenance Service Area board and one on the Library Board of Trustees.

Mayor Jan Hill is encouraging residents to spread the word about the vacancies. “Our committees are very busy now. We’re using them a lot more than we have sometimes in the past, and they are only going to work if we have citizens on these committees.”

Serving on committees is sometimes difficult, but it can also be fun, Hill said. “Sometimes it is a thankless job, but you are very much appreciated.”

Some of the committees are so short of members they can’t even meet to vote on issues or advance recommendations.

To apply, pick up the one-page application at the borough administration office or print one off the borough’s website and turn it in to the clerk. The application will go to the committee, which will make a recommendation for appointment to the mayor.
