Community Youth Development soccer is back.

The free, borough-run, summer sports program took a break last year. It will run June 30-Aug. 6, with twice-weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students from ages 5 through high school are invited to participate.

Sessions on the infield of the high school track will start at 3:30 p.m. and continue into the evening on a schedule to be determined by turnout, CYD director Al Giddings said this week. Athletes will be assigned groups and session times.

Six coaches are on board, Giddings said. “This year we’ve got brand new goalposts but most importantly we have a full staff committed to the kids and committed to soccer,” Giddings said.

Giddings also said he’s optimistically looking at the possibility of extending the soccer season past the summer, similar to programs elsewhere.

Registration forms are available at the borough office. Players also can register at the first practice. For more information, contact Giddings at 314-3094 or 766-2477.

A separate meeting for coaches only will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at the public library.
