Town, harbor have great potential

We the residents of Haines often lose sight of what we have and can have. Often people or groups come up with an idea to make Haines a better place. Then, once the idea gets in the public eye, people with a different perspective come out to say how wrong or how bad the idea or project is and it must be stopped.

We forget how big Haines is and what great potential it has. The Haines Borough is almost the size of the state of Delaware. Look at all the different things Delaware has. We can be just as diversified.

The current project in the public eye is the Small Boat Harbor. Much of the history of Haines is based on fishing. One way or another, fishing boats have ported in the general areas of the Small Boat Harbor. The fishermen and harbor committee have worked years to improve the harbor. Those now concerned should have been helping for the many years, not condemning at this late date.
