Haines Borough Mayor Jan Hill intervened this week after assembly members scheduled a 6 a.m. committee meeting to discuss a proposal for a new cruise ship waiver program.

At Tuesday’s meeting, assembly member George Campbell said in order for him to attend the Commerce Committee meeting on May 19, it would have to be either early or late in the day. “When I say fairly early, I’m talking early early. Like, early,” Campbell said.

Assembly member Case, who is also on the committee, told Campbell to name a time. “I’ll do a 6 a.m. meeting,” Campbell said.

“Good,” Case replied.

By Wednesday, though, Hill had asked the committee members to reschedule, clerk Julie Cozzi said. “The Mayor asked to have it at a more civil time,” Cozzi said.

A new time hadn’t been decided by press time Wednesday.
