Every business in town is struggling to survive as more and more tourists with less money to spend are purchasing discounted cruise ship tickets due largely to the depressed economy. Few businesses will be able to survive without a robust tourist industry. One of the biggest tourist draws for both cruise passengers and rubber-tired tourism is the unbridled beauty of our town and its surroundings. The parking lot and relocation of our Lookout Park proposed by the borough can only reduce the beauty of our community by filling in even more of our waterfront and beaches.

Where is the borough’s $10 million expected to come from? The improvement money for our water system? Improvements to our sewer system?

If the constantly growing borough government wishes to saddle its taxpayers with such an expensive and apparently destructive project, I suggest our officials do a much better job of selling the idea to the people who will have to live with it. This should be done before those same officials order any more expensive studies and certainly prior to the letting of any contracts. How about paving and putting 20 or more additional parking spaces in immediately south of the ice plant along the waterside of the existing dirt parking lot as a possible alternative?
