Brian Lemcke is returning to the Haines Borough’s public facilities director position on an interim basis, more than two years after he resigned from the position and was replaced by Carlos Jimenez.

The assembly on Tuesday confirmed Sosa’s recommendation to hire Lemcke for up to six months as the interim public facilities director.

Lemcke preceded Jimenez as public facilities director, working on an interim and then permanent basis from July 2011 until September 2012. His previous experience in the job was one of the major reasons he was selected for the position, said manager David Sosa.

“Mr. Lemcke’s knowledge of the position, his familiarity with the facilities, and his understanding of the community make him an ideal choice to lead the department and provide stability while a search for a permanent director is undertaken,” Sosa said.

Lemcke originally submitted his resignation in March 2012 with a May departure date, but extended his exit by four months. In an interview at the time, Lemcke said staying with the borough in a permanent position was “more than I want to do.”

Jimenez said Lemcke is expected on the job in early May, and there will be a transition week of overlap when both men will be working on the job before Jimenez leaves.
