In response to Lt. Dave Kyle’s letter in last week’s CVN, I decided to take my response straight from the book from which he preaches and teaches. In Genesis 1:29, God said, “Behold I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.”

So is Kyle saying he does not like what God has created? Or has he been given authority to change and twist this verse into his interpretation? I went to Kyle’s website published in last week’s paper and was unable to find any stories on the horrors of marijuana. I now invite Kyle to watch the movie on NetFlix called “Culture High” so he can educate himself on how the media has been used to scare people such as him. Kyle’s a nice guy and it seems that 10 years of marijuana use left no visible, permanent effects on his life.

And just so you know, the passage of Measure #2 did not change anything in Haines except for our ability to not be prosecuted for marijuana grown or sold within the guidelines of the law. With 67 percent of voters supporting “yes,” could Kyle not tell that this town went to pot long before his arrival at this beautiful place? As for rehab, 67 percent of 1,007 voters who cast ballots in October would mean he would have to rehab 675 of us.
