Haines Borough school board members last week agreed to advertise new positions in the district, although decisions to fund them have not yet been made.

Superintendent Ginger Jewell said advertising the jobs would get the district out front in terms of recruiting strong candidates for the positions. The jobs include a technology director and a director of student support.

Board members cautioned that budget numbers coming next month will help decide whether the new positions materialize.

“I’m going to move ahead on faith,” said member Sara Chapell, who said the support position would free up the school counselor to do more counseling.

A board budget workshop is set for 7 p.m. March 31. The next school board meeting is April 7.
