Francis Kay Adams, 36, was sentenced Feb. 12 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence on Jan. 15. A caller reported Adams driving without a license, leading an officer to pull her over on Mud Bay Road. The strong odor of alcohol on Adams’ breath caused the officer to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed. Adams was sentenced to 20 days in jail, $4,467 in fines, $125 in fees, one year of license revocation, one year of driving with an ignition interlock device, three years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment.
Adams was also sentenced to 10 days in jail and $100 in fees Feb. 12 due to a petition to revoke probation stemming from a May 27 reckless driving charge. She was sentenced to an additional five days in jail and $100 fee for another petition to revoke probation stemming from an Aug. 22 charge of violating conditions of release.
Scott A. Hotch, 38, was sentenced March 6 after pleading guilty to reckless driving on Jan. 28, 2012. An officer found Hotch’s vehicle in a ditch near 15 Mile Haines Highway. Hotch admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and being impaired. He was sentenced to five days in jail, $100 in fees, 30 days of license revocation, two years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment.
Hotch also was sentenced March 6 to driving under the influence and violating conditions of release on Jan. 8. An officer observed the strong odor of alcohol on Hotch’s breath during a traffic stop, and executed a warrant out for Hotch’s arrest. Hotch blew a .338 on the breathalyzer at the police station. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, $1,830 in fines, $175 in fees, 90 days of license revocation, six months of driving with an ignition interlock device, two years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment. Misconduct involving a weapon and failure to appear charges were dismissed.
Charles D. Baltzell, 50, was sentenced March 6 after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct by challenging someone to fight on Dec. 16, 2012. Baltzell’s girlfriend reported he ran up to her vehicle and punched her in the mouth, while Baltzell claimed he hit her open-handed when she tried to headbutt him. An officer responded and noticed a large amount of blood on Baltzell’s hand and an abrasion between his knuckles; the officer concluded the wounds on Baltzell and his girlfriend were consistent with a punch. Baltzell was sentenced to five days in jail, $100 in fees, and restitution.
William Dale Whittington, 21, was sentenced Feb. 21 after pleading guilty to driving without a valid operator license on Feb. 15. Whittington was pulled over for a taillight violation when an officer discovered he was driving without a license. Whittington was sentenced to a $100 fine and $50 in fees.
Alden C. Paddock, 49, was sentenced Feb. 26 after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for challenging someone to a fight on Oct. 3, 2010. Paddock kicked his roommate in the ribs and head over a monetary dispute. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $100 fee.
Paddock was also sentenced Feb. 26 after pleading guilty to failing to appear for a pretrial hearing on Nov. 30, 2010. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and $100 in fees.
Diana Kelm, 68, was sentenced Feb. 26 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and violating conditions of release on Oct. 5, 2012. An officer detected the strong odor of alcohol on Kelm after he pulled her over when he saw her vehicle weaving in traffic. Kelm failed three field sobriety tests. She was sentenced to six days in jail, $225 in fees, $1,830 in fines, 90 days of license revocation, six months of driving with an ignition interlock device, three years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment.
Kelm was also sentenced Feb. 26 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and violating conditions of release on Dec. 13, 2012. A caller reported Kelm almost hit her head-on in traffic. An officer responded and conducted field sobriety tests, which Kelm failed. She registered .198 on a breathalyzer. Kelm was sentenced to 25 days in jail, $1,830 in fines, $225 in fees, 90 days of license revocation, six months of driving with an ignition interlock device, three years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment. Harassment and refusal to submit to a chemical test charges were dismissed.
Bryan C. Combs, 24, was sentenced Feb. 21 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence on Nov. 29, 2012. An officer observed Combs’ truck speeding, swerving and running a stop sign. When the officer caught up to the truck, he saw Combs had driven into a ditch and knocked over a stop sign while “doing doughnuts” in a parking lot. Combs admitted to consuming alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. He registered .179 on a breathalyzer. Combs was sentenced to three days in jail, $1,830 in fines, $125 in fees, 90 days of license revocation, six months of driving with an ignition interlock device, one years’ probation, and an order to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment.
