Haines Borough Police last week released a surveillance camera photo taken during the January break-in at the library. The photo shows a person in a striped sweatshirt with their face obscured by the hood.

Police chief Bill Musser said the department has received some feedback on the photo and has identified persons of interest.

The library and Salvation Army both reported break-ins and thefts of several hundred dollars in cash had occurred either the night of Jan. 14 or early morning of Jan. 15.

On Wednesday, a business near the intersection of Jones Point Road and Old Haines Highway reported an attempted break-in. The business’s door was damaged, though the person was unsuccessful at getting inside.

Musser said it’s hard to tell if the most recent break-in is related to the previous two. “The method used is similar, but the tools used differ. Also, at least one of our persons of interest was not involved in this latest attempt as his whereabouts can be confirmed,” Musser said.

Anyone with information on the break-ins can call police at 766-2121.
