Senior Kyle Klinger exploded with 18 points Saturday in the second of two varsity games at Craig, but Haines came up short in both contests.

The Panthers took the victories, 53-36 and 67-49.

Senior Josh Stearns was the top Glacier Bear scorer on Friday, with 11 points. Senior Keegan Sundberg had 10 points; senior Keanu Lynch, 5; freshman Dylan Swinton, 4; and Klinger, junior Matthew Green and freshman Hudson Sage, 2. Senior Jordan Badger was sidelined with an injury.

Klinger upped his point total to 18 the following night. Sundberg added 10; Stearns, 9; Green, 8; and Lynch and freshman Marty Fowler, 2.

The junior varsity boys played one game against the Panthers, falling 79-75 in overtime on Saturday. Junior Trevor Cox, who transferred to Haines from Skagway last fall and just became eligible, poured in 35 points. Freshman Dalton Klinger tossed in a dozen points.

The Glacier Bear girls’ varsity also went 0-2 at Craig, by scores of 36-25 and 55-25. The girls then traveled to Metlakatla for another series before returning to Haines. Results will be reported in next week’s CVN.

At press time, this weekend’s home boys’ games against Metlakatla were scratched in anticipation of a ferry cancellation due to high winds. They were re-scheduled for Feb. 27-28.
