The Haines Chamber of Commerce is reorganizing its office functions.

Barbara Mulford, president of the business group, said property manager and former assembly member Debra Schnabel has been hired as part-time administrator on a 10-month contract starting in the new year. She’ll work 20 hours per week through Oct. 31.

Schnabel will work on membership outreach and expand the voice and mission of the organization, Mulford said. In an interview, Schnabel said she expected to generate a voice for business in community affairs. The business community has a place in community decision-making but hasn’t served in that role recently, Schnabel said.

Mulford said the group also will be hiring an office manager, but that position may involve fewer office hours than it has previously.
