The Chilkoot Indian Association tribal council placed tribal administrator Dave Berry on paid administrative leave last week.
The council met Wednesday for a personnel meeting, but declined comment.
Council member Harriet Brouillette said the council will make a public announcement next week at the earliest.
“We can’t make the decisions public until the people who are involved know,” Brouillette said.
In an interview Wednesday, Berry said tribal members and staff have not been returning his phone calls and he has “no idea” what is going on.
“It is improper,” Berry said of the failure to return calls.
Berry said he thinks his suspension is because he didn’t do something an individual tribal member directed him to do. “I take direction from the council as a whole,” Berry said.
Scott Hansen is interim tribal administrator.
Berry is also a member of the Haines Borough Assembly.
