Vote “no” on Ballot Measure 2. Alaskans, read the law that we are being asked by Outside interests to pass before voting on it. And if you only have time to read one thing, read the definition of “marijuana.” Marijuana means “all part of the plant of the genus cannabis whether growing or not, the seeds therof, the resin extracted from any part of the plant, and every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture or preparation of the plant, its seeds, or its resin, including marijuana concentrate.” Concentrates include products like Shatter, Earwax, Butane Hash Oil, and Crumble. And we have to worry about marijuana-infused cookies and candy edibles, like gummy worms.

How much marijuana can someone process and have on the premises where the plants are grown? The initiative does not seem to have any limits. Can people do their own butane hash oil extractions on the premises where plants are grown? It doesn’t seem government can restrict this? Can people barter for marijuana as long as it does not involve money? Why does the initiative use the word “renumeration”? There are no standards for what constitutes driving under the influence? What can apartment owners and others do about second-hand marijuana smoke?

In the news we read about emergency room visits increasing because of marijuana concentrate use. I, for one, don’t want these products widely advertised and sold in Alaska. And this is only one of the details that make Ballot Measure 2 so wrong for Alaska.
