I want to say thank you for bestowing the honor of “mayor” on me for the past three years.
I am disappointed that I was not re-elected, but I am not disappointed in Haines. I have high hopes for us!
I hope that you will continue to help Haines with all kinds of positive transformations: downtown revitalization, harbor and dock improvements, improvements to the sewer treatment plant, improvements to our state-maintained transportation systems. I hope you will support implementation of the $1.2 million grant from Alaska Energy Authority to move the municipality to biomass for heat and ultimately provide our own heat energy resource by capitalizing on the resources of the Haines State Forest. I hope you will support whatever local participation is necessary in order to provide for the acquisition and development of a hydro-electric energy source on this side of the submarine cable. And I hope you will continue to be part of team Haines. Attend meetings. Sign up for advisory committees. Write. Call.
I am drawn to community service, like so many of you, as a moth is to flame, so after a brief rest, I will ask my new Mayor what I can do to help. Thank you.
