Reading CVN’s candidate interviews, I saw many references to the arts as potential economy for Haines. We think of ourselves as an arts community, and Tom Heywood has brought in amazing music, but I don’t think we have hosted painting classes from outside since Jack VanHoesen brought in 200 artists for his Ultima Thule Symposium in the 1990s. I’d like to announce an arts opportunity and solicit your help disseminating information to those who might be interested.

Studio Incamminati(.org) is a four-year nonprofit art school for contemporary realism in Philadelphia. Check it out online. Their “In Your Town” program will be sending instructors to Haines for an oil portrait workshop June 15-19. All skill levels are welcome, and their very “teachable” method can be applied to any subject. I suggest participants come early or stay late to paint our scenery. We have reserved the ANB Hall for the class, and a free evening public demonstration is scheduled at the museum. I don’t have posters yet, but the workshop has been announced to the Portrait Society of America, and will be in the Haines Vacation Planner. We need at least 12 participants, up to 24. My job is to find them. I will ask artists around the country to post fliers. If this class is successful, perhaps it could happen again.

If you know anyone interested, please contact me at 766-2707. I will send or email all the details as soon as I have them.
