There is another attempt in the works by a few owners and proponents of the heliski industry as Title 5 Ordinance revision 14-08-390 to access out-of-bounds areas for a ski competition, event or production. The issue is not about a ski competition. I think it would be a great event for Haines. The issue is about using controversial, out-of-bounds areas for it, which is unnecessary, and flies in the face of everything we have been debating over and compromising on for the past 18 years.
Enough time and resources have been spent on this issue. We have to respect all of the former assembly members’ efforts along with the public’s. It is time for a rest. Let’s have a ski competition, hold it inbounds and let’s see if the industry can have a few safe and successful seasons without anyone dying or laws being broken.
