This fall we’re going to vote for new assembly members. We should all ask one question to each. Do you pay property taxes in Haines?
If not, why not? Voters might be surprised who doesn’t. Check the online borough property tax information.
Now we’re considering eliminating senior property tax exemption. That’s fine with me as long as it applies to “all” tax-exempt groups.
Singling out one group and giving others a pass smacks of discrimination and prejudice. This will lead to another lawsuit against the borough, which it will lose like always, and rightly so.
To qualify to run for office, the candidate should be naturally a resident of Haines, and also a taxpayer, no excuses.
Look for candidates that pay their property taxes, vote for them and give the boot to the ones that don’t. Like Jerry Lapp said: Stop being taken for a fool.
