Regarding the bond for $1.8 million to replace the high school roof, I am wondering if I am missing something here. I looked online for information about this bond, expecting to see a CVN article or borough analysis and found an assessment of the roof that was released in August 2013 by Tony Yorba. Yorba was hired to inspect the roofs. He reported that repairs to various areas of the school roofs not part of the recent new construction would cost an estimated $43,500. I’m curious why borough taxpayers are being asked to support a $1.8 million bond for replacement of the roof. I didn’t see where replacement was suggested in the Yorba report. My understanding is that 30 percent of the $1.8 million bond would be local contribution, amounting to $540,000. Given this report, it seems like an unnecessary expenditure of an additional $500,000. Go to http://omb.alaska.gov/ombfiles/15_budget/CapBackup/proj62215.pdf to see a copy of the report.
