The second annual celebration of “White Fang” will include storytelling about the making of the film in Haines, 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at Dalton City’s Klondike Saloon and a showing of the movie starting 7 p.m. at the Chilkat Center.
The 1991 Walt Disney release was filmed at locations around the Chilkat Valley and British Columbia during the winter and spring of 1989-90. A false-front movie set at Jones Point depicting Skagway and Dawson City, Y.T., was moved to the fairgrounds and became the Dalton City attraction.
“This is a chance for people to relive ‘White Fang,’” said organizer Davey Ozahowski, a tour guide who initiated the event last year. “You’ll be in the movie set, in the Klondike, with people telling their stories of ‘White Fang,’ when it was made. If you don’t remember that, you’re going to hear something new.”
Ozahowski said his interest in the film stemmed from his passion for “White Fang” author Jack London.
“London was here, in Lynn Canal, 120 years ago. I think it was amazing that 100 years later, this book that won him acclaim was filmed in Haines. When I came here, I couldn’t believe it was filmed here. I thought it was incredible because I saw the movie as a kid and I liked it.”
