The Summer Youth Theater Conservatory was a remarkable experience. Sixteen exceptionally talented children created an enjoyable and challenging play and gave a great performance of “The Commedia Puss in Boots.”

My partner Bill Winkley and I want to thank Annette Smith, Daniel Henry and Lynn Canal Community Players for engaging us to direct the children’s theater. Cathy Pashigian, the playmaking director; and her assistant, Kirsten Amann; are commended for a job well done, as well as our stage manager, Geneva Randles.

Others who contributed to the success of the program include the parents of the children and many community members. Special recognition is due Patty Brown, Tim Leon, Christina Baskaya and Tresham Gregg, who provided hours of work in scenery, props, costumes, face-painting and makeup.

Special thanks to Tom Morphet and the Chilkat Valley News for the extensive and excellent coverage given the performances.

We want to acknowledge Miranda Nelson, one of the playmaking children, whose name was inadvertently left off the program. We apologize for the omission.

We congratulate the community of Haines for making this experience memorable not only for the children, but for us, as well. Seeing children having a good time while learning about a special genre of theater, bringing off what can be a difficult comedy, and watching a community unite to create and then enjoy the magic of theater all made for a great experience for Bill and me. Here’s to many more years of successful summer youth theater in Haines.

Break a leg!
