I understand why the Haines Borough would like to phase out the senior property tax exemption and I might support it if the borough spent its money more wisely. But as long as the borough is willing to pay $10,000 for a study to determine if helicopters make noise, pay for a truck to tow away abandoned cars, rather than follow its own code and hold the owners responsible for them, and hire an assistant to the borough manager, then allow him to take off for another job whenever he chooses, I’d rather keep the money myself.
