The owners of the renovated Port Chilkoot Fire Hall are inviting the public to an open house 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Recent improvements to the historic structure include terraced landscaping and interior finish work, including preservation of the building’s original doors as decorative and design elements. A second-story office and ground-floor restroom also have been added.

The building on July 15 will become the private office of physical therapist and yoga instructor Marnie Hartman.

“People have really taken to the building, and have been very supportive,” said building co-owner Phyllis Sage. “This is our way of saying thank you.”

Sage and Joanne Waterman purchased the decaying structure two years ago, with an eye to restoring it. Their commitment took another step when the decided to rebuild the original hose tower, adding about 40 feet to the structure, restoring the Fort’s original skyline.

The project was privately funded.
