Public radio station KHNS raised more than $55,000 and registered 442 memberships during its annual marathon fundraiser June 23-27.

Though the station fell short of its $65,000 goal, general manager Kay Clements said money continues to trickle in after the drive is over.

“We have renewal notices going out soon and there’s always a flow of people a week or two following (the fundraiser),” Clements said.

Money raised will go toward the station’s general operating costs. “We didn’t have a particular project, but that is our project: Keeping the radio on the air,” Clements said.

The station broke its record for a single-day haul, netting $16,600 on the final day of the drive.

This is the second year the station elected to not use donated premiums to entice larger donations. However, Gregg Bigsby called in to donate five sockeye salmon to the next three people to pledge $365.

“That was kind of a wildcard. He threw that in; we didn’t solicit it,” Clements said.

The station also cut its eight-day drive to five days after raising nearly $17,700 during a two-week “silent pledge” period in June.

About 70 volunteers contributed to the membership drive by donating food, answering phones and soliciting memberships on-air, Clements said.
