All are welcome at the 7th annual Haines Fishermen’s Community King Salmon Barbecue, a free meal that’s a promotional event for the region’s seafood, set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at the Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds.
Lynn Canal Gillnetters Association and the fair organize the barbecue, that features fresh king salmon donated by Ocean Beauty Seafoods, with side dishes and dessert, and live music by the Fishpickers and Juneau’s Shawn McCole Trio. A $5 suggestion donation supports the fair.
Event co-organizer Gregg Bigsby of the Lynn Canal Gillnetters Association said Ocean Beauty Seafoods of Excursion Inlet will donate about 1,200 pounds of fresh King Salmon to the barbecue. The fish will be processed by the Seafood Producers Cooperative in Sitka, and prepared by Haines Packing Company.
There are a host of other sponsors. About 950 people attended the barbecue in 2013. Organizers expect to serve as many as 1,000 salmon dinners this year.
