The caring Haines adults who invest their time serving kids as mentors confer simple yet priceless gifts – patience, presence, honesty and time, to name just a few.  These are our grandparents, school staff, coaches, scout leaders, neighbors, scientists, friends, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and, of course, parents. Thank you, all!

In the past eight weeks, Pacific Pile and Marine has helped Big Brothers Big Sisters by underwriting weekly CVN advertisements that promote the need for new volunteers, but especially Big Brothers. I am pleased to report that three new adult volunteers have completed the background screening and enrollment during this time: two women and one man. That may not sound like a lot, but that level of recruitment over 12 months means a program that might achieve 30 active matches or more (16 current matches). That’s big! Thanks, again, Pacific Pile and Marine.

A direct result of this recruitment success is that one huge dream is about to come true for a boy whose life is affected by significant adversity. Another result is that there are now three fantastic Big Sisters patiently waiting to be matched and each is special. That is, Little Sisters are needed, along with more Big Brothers. If you can help enroll a youth, or a new Big Brother or Big Sister, don’t be shy. Call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 766-2151.
