For 17 years, Mardell Gunn and Diz Kistler have led the charge for the Hospice of Haines annual spring rummage sale. Mardell’s organization skills and hard work, along with her dedicated crew of 60 helpers, gathered, sorted, folded, labeled, and sold for over 500 hours in three long days, earning $10,400—a fourth of the budget of Hospice of Haines. Besides Mardell and Diz, we want to mention a few of this year’s helpers who logged extra hours—some of them for several years: Ron Jackson, Diane LaCourse, Jean Smith, Denise Sherman, Randa Szymanski, Kirstin and Pacific Amann, Diane Atkinson and Roger Ingledue. We thank you— all of you: our tent raisers, our bake sale bakers, the recycling sorters and the most efficient clean-up crew.
We could not boast our income from this sale without the help of JR Churchill, who hauled a large quantity of unwanted items to Acme Transfer. Thank you, Paul Nelson, for another year of generosity!
Lastly, on behalf of our clients and their volunteers, we thank our community for your donations and gifts; we saw scores of smiles from folks leaving the sale with their treasures.
