Student Keva Shull of Haines performs during last week’s “Choose Respect” event March 27 at the Haines ANB Hall. The event aimed at addressing domestic violence and sexual assault featured a march by more than 100 residents, including Haines Elementary School students. Speeches included ones by former Haines Borough Mayor Jan Hill, borough police chief Bill Musser and SEARHC domestic violence health educator Jackie Mazeikas. Former Lynn Canal Counseling Mental Health Director Bill Stacy described how victims often blame themselves for abuse, even to the point of protecting their abusers. “Domestic violence is a crazy relationship,” he said.
