Thirteen new puppets will tell a medieval morality play in “Everypuppet,” a show by Byrne Power’s Reckong Motions puppet troupe March 14-15.
The show will be held in the ANB Hall basement, with shows Friday at 6 p.m and 8 p.m. and Saturday 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The play involves a dying character looking for someone to accompany him through the gates of death. Characters he approaches include ones named “Fame,” “Glamor,” “Possessions,” “Knowledge” and “Beauty.”
The play dates to a century before the works of William Shakespeare, Power said.
“I find it interesting to take old plays and to give them a redo for contemporary times,” he said. “If you want to laugh, you’ll laugh. If you want to think, you’ll think. There’s a lot going on.”
Puppeteer Victoria Hansen, 15, has been memorizing lines and working on voice projection for the show, as well as making outfits for characters. She’ll operate three string puppets in the show. Hansen also worked on Powers’ production of “Calliope” last year.
Hansen said the show has appeal, including interaction between characters. “It’s an intriguing thing. It’s not just a puppet show you enjoy. There’s something interesting to think about. It’s kind of a novelty.”
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $25 for families. For more information, call 766-3647.
