Homegrown talent will shine onstage during the annual Northern Light Showcase, 7 p.m. Sunday in the Chilkat Center lobby.

The show is presented by the Haines Arts Council and will feature eight acts put on by local artists. Most of the performances are musical, but humorist Joe Parnell will perform comedy.

Among those slated to perform are Parnell, the Hi-De-Hos, Burl Sheldon, Debra Schnabel, Greg Horner, Jeff Alvine, Tully Devine and John Hunt.

Schnabel, a pianist who has performed five times in the showcase, said participating in the event is a matter of self-discipline. “I am challenging myself to overcome stage fright and be focused. For me, it’s a discipline. Practice is discipline and then the performance is always trying for me.”

Schnabel will be performing Bach’s “Air on the G Sting.” She will also be accompanying singer Lindsey Jobbins, though they haven’t discussed what to perform yet.

Jobbins, a soprano and junior at Haines High School, recently performed at Carnegie Hall as part of the High School Honors Performance Series.

Showcase tickets are $8 at the door.
