State Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, D-Sitka, is coming to Haines this weekend to visit with the Chamber of Commerce, the Haines Borough school board and a high school government class.
Kreiss-Tomkins will speak at a chamber luncheon starting noon Saturday at the Chilkat Bakery.
In addition to discussing the legislative session and how the proposed laws could affect people in Haines, Kreiss-Tomkins will also be taking questions and listening to concerns, he said.
Though Kreiss-Tomkins currently represents Haines, a redistricting decision and new political map mean he won’t represent it next year.
Kreiss-Tomkins said he has been focusing on helping the SB21 oil tax referendum effort and working to stop the proposal to change Alaska’s constitution which would allow public money to go toward private and religious schools.
Kreiss-Tompkins has also been working with the Department of Environmental Conservation, Department of Transportation and Southeast Conference of Mayors on the issue of DOT herbicide spraying in local watersheds.
