About 30 souls turned out at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day to participate in the 9th annual Polar Bear Dip at Port Chilkoot Dock. They sprinted through about six inches of snow on the beach and into slushy water. Participation was down from about 55 who made the dip in 2013. The air temperature was about 34 F. A beachside pallet fire kept swimmers warm.
