Haines Borough interim police chief Simon Ford with the department’s 2014 Ford Interceptor, the first of three the force is scheduled to get, replacing two hybrid patrol cars and a Dodge Durango. Electronic needs, including lights, dashboard cameras and radios, drained the batteries of the hybrids. The new vehicles cost about $35,000 outfitted, and will including equipment salvaged from the hybrids. The vehicles average 18 mpg. The new cars are equipped with rear radar to catch vehicles speeding behind patrol cars.
