I am appalled by the police department’s suggestion that an employee could have been responsible for the recent thefts at the library. I was an employee of the library for 21 years and now volunteer there. I have the utmost respect for and trust in every one of the library’s employees. Not only would they not steal from the library, they give an untold amount of unpaid hours and do much to make the library the outstanding facility that it is. Through the years I have met many new residents of Haines who say that one of the reasons they moved here was because of the reputation of our library. It justly deserves that excellent reputation. It is the employees, boards and volunteers that have made the library what it is today. Next time you visit the library, please be sure to thank the employees and volunteers for all they do for this community.
