Once again, the Great Pumpkin didn’t rise out of the pumpkin patch and fly through the air with a bag of toys. He did, however, spend a couple of weeks in the school library. I must thank Kate and Elena Saunders for growing and sharing their great pumpkin. By bringing their hard work into the school, more than 270 books were read to guess the weight – way to go, readers! Congratulations to Wesley Verhamme, Luke Davis and Nathan Haas for correctly guessing the weight of the pumpkin. We were lucky to have Mark Fontenot’s engineering class carve it for us and we couldn’t have moved the 160-pound pumpkin into the school without Neil Einsbruch, and Teresa and David Land helping on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all the students who submitted carving ideas, especially to Kaya Ramirez’s wonderful brain drawing. I would also like to thank all the students, teachers, parents and community members for their support during the Scholastic Book Fair in the library this fall. The book fair couldn’t be done each year without all the student and adult volunteers, especially Steven Sykes, Barb Blood and Kim Sundberg.

Thanks again, Kate and Elena, and happy reading!
