On behalf of the Southeast Alaska State Fair’s board of directors and staff, I would like to thank the Rasmuson Foundation and donors to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation for grants that supported the Fair’s Park and Pavilion project. Thanks also to the contractors and volunteers who donated labor and services. The new pavilion stage proved an excellent performance venue during the four-day fair, and will serve as a community picnicking and gathering place. A lawn was seeded immediately following the fair, and grass will be established by next summer. As part of the project, we have been working since 2011 on a perimeter trail for a variety of non-motorized, four-season recreational uses; trail work continues this fall. By providing new arts and recreation opportunities, I believe this project helps three organizations meet their respective missions: Rasmuson Foundation’s mission to help promote a better life for Alaskans; Chilkat Valley Community Foundation’s mission to enhance the quality of life for Chilkat Valley residents; and the Southeast Alaska State Fair’s mission to make the fairgrounds a place where community happens year-round. Thank you.
