Three apple trees in front of Fort Seward Lodge were found “wacked” recently, said resident Kathleen Menke.
“The main stems of all three trees were completely broken,” said Menke. Menke said it appears construction crews may have inadvertently damaged them.
Menke planted the trees two years ago in memory of Bill Aronson, Barbara Lewis and Menke’s dog Brandy.
“They mean something to me and to other people in the community,” Menke said.
Menke fixed the trees using three metal rods and believes they will survive. She also reflagged the trees to create awareness of their presence.
“I hope everybody just becomes respectful to not just those trees, but to all the trees being planted all over town,” she said.
